The 2010 August issue of our Yahamaga Islamic monthly newspaper is now printed and available. As I write this we are in the process of distributing it to our small but growing number of readers, subscribers and paper shops.

I would like to add that currently the Yahamaga Islamic monthly newspaper is the only Islamic newspaper in the Sinhala language. Sinhala is spoken by 14 million Sri Lankan of Buddhist, Catholic and Christian faiths as well as a growing number of Sri Lankan Muslims of Moorish and Malay backgrounds who attend schooling in Sinhala language. Altogether I estimate the Sinhala reading crowd forms about 80% of Sri Lanka’s 20 million population.

So you can see there was a huge void in the Sinhala language newspaper reading public with the lack of a Islamic or Muslim Sinhala language newspaper to present a Islamic and Muslim perspectives on current events, politics, religion,public opinion etc. Yahamga newspaper is trying to fill this void of the lack of Sinhala Muslim & Islamic newspapers in Sri Lanka and provide a opportunity for the Sinhala speaking people to read a Islamic newspaper in Sinhala language.

Many Sinhala speaking people don’t know about Yahamaga yet. We have a lot of work on our hands. We need to get the news about Yahamaga newspapers to the public and newspaper shops throughout Sri Lanka. We also need writers in Sinhala language and Sinhala language article contributors. We also need to promote it and distribute it throughout Sri Lanka among Sinhala speaking people of all faiths.
