Da’wah Situation in Sri Lanka

The Muslim community of Sri Lanka has co-existed with other communities in peace and harmony for more than ten centuries. The Muslims and their life style have not made any discernible impact upon the 92% of other communities.

Sri Lanka has so many Islamic movements and centres. But they are not much interested about non Muslim dawah. The 80% of the population’s language is Sinhalese. But majority of Islamic activities carried out in Tamil language and 99% of Alims are Tamil educated.

In the past it was the individuals who put their efforts on introducing Islam among other communities. When I became a Muslim I realized that introduction of Islam to others is a collective duty being Farlu kifaya. In order to fulfill this need, I started Dawah with my friends. Since I engaged various da’wah activities in the Country. I must mention here that when I was working with other dawah organization in the past I found it their methods of dawah for non Muslims are not adequate.

It is our prayer that Muslims will rise to the task, overcome their psychological barriers and face the challenges of spreading the message of Islam to every home in Sri Lanka.

DA’WAH CORNER – SRI LANKA

I invited some Muslim brothers to do Da’wah activities in Sri Lanka as volunteers. I formed a group and now its growth is more than 27 volunteers. They received training from me with a different methods of da’wah techniques.

I became prominent when I made a speech in the Buddhism and Islam channel on www.youtube.com in 2008 launched by me. A friend of mine and me started the only Islamic dawah web (www.sihalamuslims.org) in Sinhalese language of Sri Lanka. I wrote 2 books, those books have become so popular among Sinhalese speaking Muslims. Now I’m planning to publish my third and fourth books.

In the month of April I have been invited from Discover Islam Centre in Bahrain to do da’wah among Sinhalese workers for three months. After my return to Sri Lanka I got lot of invitations to commence dawah work in Sri Lanka. While I was doing my dawah work here I advertised in the print media for calling people to learn Islam. I received a encouraging response from non Muslims. This made us to find a meeting place. Alhamdulillah! We were able to find a place. I registered this centre as DA’WAH CORNER.
